组成模具的零件形状虽然各异，但构成每个零件的基本表面可概括为3种。

(1)回转面零件的外圆面、内圆面、圆锥面等。

模具零件成形的实质就是解决这3种基本表面的加工问题。对于回转面和平面通常采用传统的切削加工就可以成形，根据零件表面不同的精度要求和不同的材质可以选取不同的加工方案。
